BIO

Dane Samilo photo

Born and raised in the outskirts of San Diego, I decided perfect weather year-round and the world's best burritos just weren't for me. So, I left for NYC, where I would exchange sitting traffic for hours for studying monocyte trafficking for hours during my doctoral training. I then made the shift to public policy through the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship and landed in DC, where I worked primarily on federal STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education and workforce programs/policy.

Outside of my somewhat unorthodox career path, I've dedicated a considerable amount of my time to volunteering for K-12 STEM education and outreach programs and also for a professional society for the LGBTQ+ STEM community.

In the not-so-distant future, my goal is to switch career tracks again and return to biomedical sciences and focus on public-facing communications. And in the near future that I'm manifesting, my hope is to produce an educational kids' show aimed at preparing children for the ever-evolving, modern-day challenges they'll face.

CURRICULUM VITAE

SUMMARY

I am a policy analyst with five years of experience in STEM education and workforce policy, and I am skilled in communicating complex content to diverse audiences. I excel at building strong team relationships and delivering exceptional results, and I have over six years of freelance graphic design experiencethat enhances my policy work.

With more than nine years in STEM K-12 outreach, tutoring, and education, I bring a deep understanding of educational practices and policies, combining my expertise in policy analysis with a passion for fostering STEM learning and workforce development.

I strongly believe that multidisciplinary talent is essential, and I had the idea of organizing all my skills and experiences into categories. With the help of Howiework (the web developer for this site) and my problem-solving skills, I was able to bring this idea to life.
